Bought a new Macbook 3 months ago (basic model @ £749) and have been extremely disappointed with it. An acquaintance has shown interest in buying it and has asked me to name a price but I have absolutley no idea of its worth. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Search on the completed listings auctions on eBay?

Silly question. It's worth whatever the buyer pays for it.
In any case, you haven't given the specification. What's "basic"?
Search the "Macintosh" section on eBay to see typical selling prices.

At only 3 months and unused I'd guess you should be asking £695. But it's up to the buyer.

I don't think you'd get £695. For only £50 more you can buy it new from Apple. £600 would be more realistic.

Out of curiosity, what don't you like about it. Just I've always been thinking about getting one.

  • Is it any better than the ones shown Here?

If the comp isnt as good would reccomend a price of aroud £500-£600. Remember that computer values depreciate quite rapidly when bought.

It's about as much use as a chocolate fireguard - it doesn't run the disks I need for work and I'm unimpressed by its general lack of functionality.

Is that with regards to the operating system (OS X) rather than the hardware?

I'm guessing your work is a Windows environment.

What disk? apple can do more than what windows can do.. so you will have to tell us more!
    While I breathe.... I hope
  • Recently got a basic MacBook and now I wouldn't be without it. Spend 1/2 - 1 hour learning how to do the basics and you won't look back... As for the work discs i can't be polite so i won't comment further.

The price I'd give you for it? If i hadn't previously had a Mac maybe 300 bucks - now somewhere between £500 & £600.
  • Why not install Windows on it using BootCamp if what you need to access is Windows based? Or try Parallels which allows you to run Windows apps in OS X. Mac's take a bit of getting used if all you have ever used is a windows based PC, to but once you 'get it' you'll not go back to Windows :) I always get annoyed on my PC that F9-F12 don't 'work' :)
    Card 1 = £1638.27 - 16.9%
    Card 2 = £6790- 0% until 31/08/07
    OD 1 = £927.51
OD 2 = £1103.97 - Current Acc. This one will go up and down as I use it.
Loan = £4580.95 £146.30 per month (fixed) Final Payment Date 06/01/10

    Total - 01/01/07 = £15,992.07

Proud to be dealing with my debts

Mac's dont depreciate nearly as much as any old windows style laptop.

I'd be tempted to say around £650, then let him bring you down to £600.

I had a mac and stupidly sold it to make some money and bought a cheap windows laptop and have regretted it ever since.

I would do with what others have said and install windows on it using boot camp ;)
