Wedding finale ideas

Hi All,

I am looking for some ideas for the end of the wedding night please?

To give you a brief overview:
-Only 22 guests attending the wedding,4 of which are children under 5yrs.
-Wedding at 4pm,meal at 6pm & then music in our private function room so looking to finish about 11pm with some sort of close?
-Not allowed fireworks as in Scottish castle.
-Chinese lanterns is a no no as friend did them at her wedding at Castle.

I have no idea as to what we could do in order to close the night so me & my new hubbie can depart & others can stay up if they want to.
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
Wedding in 10weeks.

Standard wedding night end is last dance to "Loch Lomond" in the big circle with everyone running into the middle at the same time. Should be possible with 22.

I don't think you need a "finale" - I've been to a few weddings where the B&G left before the end, and they simply had an announcement made, then people go out to wave them off in the carpark.
  • Sorry forgot to add myself & hubbie to be & all are guests are staying over at the castle so wont be driving anywhere.

Not heard of Scottish tradition "Loch Lomand" as not scottish but will look in to that.

Just feel that we need something to end the night.

Ideally wanted fireworks but not spending £1500 on low noise fireworks that look like they came out of a Foxs biscuit tin!

Hehe it's fun but very deadly. Basically you play the Runrig version of "Loch Lomond" and everyone gets in a circle and joins hands. It's all very sedate at first, you just swing your joined hands, until the music gets fast and everyone runs into the middle at the same time as fast as possible still holding hands, then back out again. I broke my foot once.

what about sparklers! You could maybe follow up with something cosy like serving a hot toddy or hot chocolate.

I much prefer sparklers to fireworks and much more enviromentally friendly than lanterns which as a farmers wife I am totally against... (I dont care how biodegradable they are they really spook the animals and can set fire to crops in dry weather).
  • Might be a regional thing, but pretty much all the (Scottish) weddings I've been at end with a chorus of Auld Lang Syne but with the same mental bit at the end - usually with the B&G in the middle of the circle getting squashed as the circle piles in around them! However, if noone is Scottish they might not know the words etc so might not work.

We had that and then the bus came to take people back into town which was the cue for everyone not staying over to leave. There was around a dozen of is still up after everyone left and we went to the cosy bar to have a last quiet drink before heading off to bed - was lovely to spend a bit of time with my immediate family/friends reflecting on the day and hearing about things I'd missed!
  • every scottish wedding Ive attended has ended with the bride and groom in the middle of the dancefloor with the guests in a circle around, and had either Auld Lang Syne, Loch Lomond or 500 Miles. Its a great way of getting everyone together and the b&g to have a last dance together. Have a look on Youtube for videos of it!

ohh i like this idea! This forum give me so many ideas that im hoping people wil ltalk about in years to come, from my cds insted of table cameras, and my flip flop basket that i havent yet made!

Hmm i would like to do lanterns but it would be abit manic getting evryoen outside our venue....im not really fancying the dance idea as we couldnt get 180 people to do it, but i see what the OP wants and i will be watching this thred for ideas....

I have a feeling being on his board acutally costs me more in ideas than being MSE lol. xxx
Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue. Only fools are statues every day. (15.09.12 cant wait!)
