My DH retired in MARCH of this year and took his pension and a lump sum.. they paid out the month after leaving the lump sum and all they owed him..for previous months work.
We are now in August and they have written to him stating they have overpaid him by 400.00...
Can anyone advise please

Has he checked their calculations? does he agree he was overpaid? presumably its the work element that was overpaid rather than the pension?
Assuming he can afford to I would just pay it back in a lump sum. If he's tied all his cash up in longer term investments etc then he could write and offer to repay over a few months.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
If he has been overpaid in error then the employer can pursue it legally. Don't believe anyone who tells you it's their mistake and you don't have to pay it back.
As Tixy says, if you agree that the overpayment was made then you ought to just pay it back. If you don't have the cash to do so in one go then a reasonable offer of installments should be fine.0
