Why I'm not scared of the post anymore.

Over the last week I've had a total change in attitude about my debts, money situation, worrying-looking envelopes that arrive, and money-related stuff generally.
I finally got a grip, opened everything, added everything up, and wrote it all down. It's a bit worse than I expected, but that's not the point.
The point is I am very competitive, so suddenly paying it off and saving money is like a competition between me and The Man. (Don't ask who I think The Man is, I don't want to break the spell!
So I'm in the Payment a Day challenge, the Spend Nothing Challenge, and today I actually took all the 2p and 1p coins from the penny jar and fed them into the automatic check-out machine at Tesco to buy bread and milk. Basically, free food. :rotfl:
I cannot begin to explain what a weight off my mind this is, and how I suddenly feel great about checking my statement, instead of hiding from it in blank terror.
I just had to share, since it's these forums that have given me a place to come to and get back on my feet.
cheers all! :T

It really is a weight of your mind isn't it. The pile of post is very scary and then when you finally open it you wonder what all the fuss was about.
I think the not knowing is worse than the reality.
I look back now on when I lived with my ex and we used to avoid the phone, dread people turning up and basically I lived on my nerves....not nice!
Well done on tackling it head on.Can I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising

Well done. We've all been there. I used to hate logging in to my internet banking. I could feel the sweet start and my heart used to race. Now it doesn't bother me.
Onwards and upwards as the say xx0 -
Wow, so good to read this post, I have spent the past months avoiding opening my mail, I used to leave it for weeks until I could sum up the courage to open it! As for the phone, well still scared everything that rings, but getting better at answering it, instead of 1471ing everytime it rings. I faced up to my problems last week, and feel like a great weight has been lifted from shoulders. This site has been an absolute gosend to me, realising that there are people in the same situation as I have got myself into.0

Hey, well done it's a great place to be.
We're in the same boat - we used to leave the post for ages before opening it as we knew that every month we were in a worse position than before. Now, we're on a DMP with CCCS and having finally faced up to the debt we know it can only get better, not worse. I actually enjoy logging on to my DMP account and checking the amount owed to each creditor against the latest statement. It's only going down at the pace of an elderly snail BUT it is going down and that feels fantastic.
Keep going everyone!0 -
