My boyfriend is always finding notes on the floor! He always has his eye out because he collects disgarded photos... we have a whole shoe box of passport photos from all over the world.

Once I picked up an envelope of the floor and it had £70 in it. I bought myself a nice bike and saved on the bus fare.

It's what they do at the bank :D

I'm not sure how much a pound's worth of 1 pence or 2 pence coins weigh but I know that they're both the same :D
So if you counted out 1 pound's worth of either then you would know for whenever you wanted to work out how much you had...

If you know how much your container weighs when it's empty then you could weigh the whole thing and work out how much you've got...
,,,or you could use another container and zero the scales then tip your coins in to weigh them.

Also when you're bagging your coins up to take to the bank if you know how much 1 bag weighs then you can just fill all the other bags until they weighs the same which is easier than counting every single coin IMHO :D

I think that a pound's worth of 5 pence and 10 pence coins weigh the same as each other as well but I'm not 100% sure so it would be best to check ;)
But even if it isn't the same then you can still calculate how much you've got if you store 5p & 10p coins seperately.
At the very least you can still save time "bagging up" if you know how much a bagfull of each coin weighs :D

I don't know if anyone will find this info useful but I decided to post it coz I was thinking today that I need to bank what the kids have got in their money boxes :D

I did this with my £2 coin tin, it's one of those sealed ones so you don't know how much is in but I'd got a new one and weighed it, then weighed the part filled one, kept it to myself that there was over £600 in it :D but was a relief knowing had enough for holiday.
One day I might be more organised...........

This is fine if you have very sensitive scales. You'd need electric ones I guess, as the difference between 99p and £1's worth of pennies would be very small.

  • Or you could just take the coins to a Sainsburies; they often have those change machines that you dump the change in (not worth it for 50p + up) then you get a receipt for the amount. Take it to a till and get the cash.

You could use those machines but I am too tight to let them have the 7% it costs to use them.

i always count mine out once i've settled down in front of a film. the hardest part with things like that is always getting started. once you've started, it never seems as arduous as you once thought it might be :)

I used to have to count up to a hundred pound's worth of change per day.

I found the easiest way was to count 10 pennies and stack them. Then simply pick all the other pennies out and stand them in equal size stacks next to the one you've counted.

Then the 2p's... and so on.
