Is this a good idea or not

I know its not going to clear my debts but every little helps. So is the following a good idea or is there any pitfalls
.
I have a mobile which after finishing my last contract is now PAYG.
All very well, but due to commitments i struggle to spend about 15 quid a month on calls. Sometimes top up with 20 per month. And always "not answering" messages just to save credit.
Anywy my idea is to accept another contract on Virgin mobile for £20 a month which will cover all my calls and texts without a problem and no trying to save credit.
But the main thing is if i do this then i get a "free" latest phone to sell on ebay.
If you see what im getting at - essentially still spending 20 a month, but also getting phone to flog.
Or am i missing something ?

nope, makes sense to me
as long as you're sure you wont go over your allowance and end up with a huge bill
any brand new phone i would have thought. why don't you have a look on ebay to see what the best sellers are?31/12/2006 £8395, 01/10/2008 £5089.73, 19/10/2010 £835.00 31/03/2011 £0.00
Pigsback = £9.35 (£30 claimed), Quidco = £128.24 claimedOfficial DFW Nerd No. 264

The latest phone won't be free. The free phones won't be worth enough to justify the £20 per month commitment for a year. That will be £240 your spending, at a guess the max value of a free phone will be £100.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. yeah, loads of folk do it!!!!
best way to find out which phone is most poplar (therefore probably best seller on eBay) is to go into the phone shop and find out! be honest with them and they'll likely give you a honst answrr!!! go to a few shops though for your research!!!A banker is a fellow who lends you his umbrella when the sun is shining and wants it back the minute it begins to rain.0 -
a word of caution... although your plan seems a ok to me... if you sell phones on ebay you are inviting lots of scammers/scams please be aware... i dont want you to be out of pocket

Do companies get upset about you selling it. Or more importantly is it legal ?HALX CC (14%)...............[STRIKE] 5795[/STRIKE]....5470

If it isn't legal then e bay would be up ***t creek without a paddle. Most of the new phones on there site are from the source you describe.
I remember reading about one of the networks trying to clamp down, but the argument that was used by most people was "You have given us a free phone, how can you then say we can't do what we please with it"? I have never heard of anyone being caught out though. I have just got a Virgin contract phone through a 3rd party supplier, there is not anything that I have read stating that they do not allow you to sell the phone on.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0 -
