Not all debts showing on credit file???

Hi guys.
In an attempt to sort my partners old unpaid debts out we done a £2 credit file search.
However only 2 debts were present on the file, but constant mail to our address from dca's suggested there are 5 debts.
Just to be sure we done 3 further £2 file requests yet it remains the same.
Would this mean those debts have now become statute barred??
My partner has said its been ages since anything was paid on them, around 5 years but very unsure.
Any thoughts or advice please. Thanks.

There is more than one credit agency - three if I am correct.

    Experian
    Equifax
    Call credit

    There may be more

Also, really old cards may not be on any. My Barclaycard from 1986 isn't on.
  • Can anyone else help?????

So have you got your £2 credit report from all three agencies listed by InDeepDebt or not? If not, then you need to get all three. Not all financial institutions use the same CRA so you need all three to get a clear picture.

If you have got them from all three then I have no idea, sorry.

Have you checked all 3 agencies? Did the other debts appear on the other credit agencies reports.

If a debt originally defaulted more than 6 years ago it would no longer show on the debtors credit file. But just not being on credit file does not mean they are statute barred, it could be the original default was over 6years ago but partner paid something say 5years ago when chased.

And not all debts appear on any of the credit reference agencies files.

  • Thanks for help so far guys.
Only searched one credit agency so far.
However all debts are owned by the same company so i figured they would show together???
So just to be clear if a debt has slipped off a credit file it does not mean it becomes automatically statute barred??

No - a debt could still be on file but be statute barred.
And it could have dropped off but not be statute barred.

Thats because they drop off 6years after the default date - but the default date is not relevant for working out when a debt becomes statute barred.

Obviously if its dropped off for being 6years since the default there is probably more chance its SB but thats a generalisation rather than anything more.

  • ok interesting. so what should we do next? Am i right in thinking that its 6 years from last payment it becomes SB?

6years from the last payment or written acknowledgment by the debtor to the creditor/DCA that they owe the money. And only if court action isn't started before that 6year period is up.

Can he not work out when he last paid from his old bank statements etc?

  • No bank records kept so unable to tell that way.
Is it worth checking the credit file with another agency???
The debt that is of most concern was a loan taken out in 2003, repayments were made on and off for roughly 2- maybe 3 years.
