Hence the title of the thread.:)
  • Sometimes the lessons we learn in life are expensive, but it is a lesson learned... I know cos we were bitten that way about 12 years ago, by the time the loan was paid off, the car had been replaced.

the car finance people aren't thieving con artists, they're an option if people dont have the money to pay for 1 straight away
  • So that's who can afford 18 grand for a car!

What's wrong with a £1500 car these days? Especially if you're skint!

I'm an idiot that prefers to blame others for the result of my own actions by calling them thieving con artists.....

Here's a better title, can you change it?

And you are not money savvy in the slightest if you took out that loan without realising what you were doing.
  • Hi,

This is crazy - there are a few problems with this.

As everyone has pointed out you have no-one to blame but yourself and if the world was running right under CCD the dealership should've taken you through everything (if not you can argue).

Depending on the scheme your in HP/personal contract plan (can you tell I just bought a car recently) you have several options after the term - give it back, keep it or upgrade into a new car for the same cost. So the products should give you good flexibility.

Now they're not for everyone but what the firms do is offer a solution to people. you can finance a car any way you like but not many people can buy a new car outright these days so you have to take what you can get.

Also, you're branding an entire industry based on your error with one supplier - over reacting slightly????????????

    You live and you learn.

We have all made mistakes the key is that you learn from them and move on.

Try getting a £106,000 mortgage on a 5 year 6.99% deal when I could have saved for a few months and got a much better deal!! What an idiot I was but I learnt so much from it and made me a MFW. :D
    [STRIKE]£106,200[/STRIKE] mortgage with 5% deposit 2 years ago on 6.99% 04/06/08
Overpaying the max 10% per year for the next 2 years until July 2013 when I can remortgage and should be able to get down to 55% LTV.
    Overpaid 10% £10,619.87 Dec 2010 & 10% £9,475 Aug 2011
    Mortgage was £690 now £560 :D
    Currently £85,203 - 71% LTV 26/08/11

Not that much! For between 1500 to 2000, there are cars available with accessories that rival those being sold new today! Plus as the price is affordable, it means a person can probably pay it without a loan, which means no interest and therefor more to add to a savings account!
