im buying my first SLR camera and to be honest all i need it for is to take pics of lightning, on the link is what i want to buy, but need to know if i require anything else to get started or have i gone overboard?

Get a Nikon or Canon

The Canon 400 digital SLR is a good starting point, I have the previous model , the 350, and it is very good.

The EOS lenses used on the older 35mm film cameras are compatible and can be picked up fairly reasonably on the second hand market.

The bespoke canon battery gives very impressive life from a single charge and recharges very quickly.

I only own this one so cannot comment on other models.
