Mobile contracts

Hi all - long time no see. Hope everyone's well
It's been a year since my ED and I'm toying with the idea of a mobile contract (PAYG at the moment). What are everyone's experiences with different providers? I don't want to apply and be rejected. I was going to go with Orange out of habit, but open to suggestions.
Want to start building up some credit, but dreading the idea of a CC.
Thanks

Congratulations on your ED! You'll find phone contracts are very hit and miss, it very much seems to be the luck of the draw. Have you cleaned up your credit file yet? I've seen a few people have success with Orange when applying online, and Vodafone seems to be quite BR friendly.
I should add that I've been with o2 since before BR, and had no problems at allFeb 2024:
CC1 6537.66
CC2 7804.45
CC3 4221.17
CC4 2053.68
CC5 989.30
Loan 1 3686.44
Loan 2 5275.22
Total £30,567.920 -
I managed to get 2 24 monthly contracts with HTC Desire phones with Virgin Mobile. One I obtained a month after discharge and the second 2 months after discharge. But for some reason it is very hit and miss.:pB&SC No. 298

OH been discharged over two years, managed to secure great deal on T-Mobile last week (sim only, apply online directly with T-Mobile - we also used TopCashback to get cashback on the deal).
Are you looking simply for a contract or a phone as well?0 -
Someone mentioned on here a week or so a go that they were told to ring orange directly rather than go through website and you will get accepted. Think they said it worked for them.0

Thank you! I've not cleaned up my file yet (intend to before applying), mostly because I've not been in a hurry to get more credit. Should get on it if I want a new phone before xmas I guess.wildheart83 wrote: »Congratulations on your ED! That's encouraging for an expensive phone too. Thanks! Were you with them before BR?
Thanks for the info. I've been a PAYG person since before BR - don't use mobiles to talk that much, it's mostly for the internet. I'm now on an Orange PAYG deal that gives you 300 texts and near unlimited internet if you top up by £10, which is all I need. Was initially planning on getting the new Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro for £250-ish (sim free), but then saw that I can get the Arc for the same money on a £10 Orange plan (24 month) with more freebies. Only reason I started looking into it to be honest.CitySlicker wrote: »OH been discharged over two years, managed to secure great deal on T-Mobile last week (sim only, apply online directly with T-Mobile - we also used TopCashback to get cashback on the deal).
