well feeling completely miserable - thought we were getting sorted and have made contact with the CCCS in order to arrange a DMP. Although they have advised that we open a separate bank account from the one we are currently using. This is just not happening
Can anyone suggest a place we can go as feeling utterly defalted and depressed.
thanks

Hi there - have you tried the Step account with Natwest? you can apply online and although there is no cheque book, you get a solo card and can pay DD's etc through it, have your salary paid in etc.
I also understand the Co-op have a good basic account, but I can't remember what it is called.....cashminder possibly?0 -
Are you unable to get another account due to credit rating problems?
Many banks offer a basic bank account, I'm sure someone will be along shortly with the link
No longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
most bank offer basic bank a/c for people with poor credit record. these do not offer overdrafts or cheque books but allow DD, standing orders and some sort of cash/debit card.
make sure you ask for the basic a/c.. people have recommended natwest step a/c or nationwide0 -
Depends who you are banking with now and have debts with as some are associated with each other.
Halifax do a basic account aswell.

hi there, my sister was in a similar position having defaulted on her student account and accrued other debt and arrears. She called the Bank of Scotland/Halifax who sent her an application for their basic account. She got her wages into that, dds etc going out. It has no cheque book and just an atm card. Furthermore, after running that problem free for 6 months, they are sending her an electron card so she can pay over the phone again. Hope this helps!

Just a thought - I have a terrible credit history and like many posters on the Budgeting and Bank Accounts forum, managed to get a bank account with Citibank. Mine came with a Visa debit card (which I understand is the only one they offer, ie not electron) and chequebook though the card is not a cheque guarantee card. The only branches are in London but you can pay money/cheques in at Lloyds/TSB branches. It comes with internet and telephone banking. The account seems pretty easy to get, going on previous threads and you can apply online. I think it depends on your credit history as to if you get a card that is a guarantee card too.
Hope this helps! Good luck0 -
The HSBC do a basic bank account,d/d's and normal atm card0

I have recently gone bankrupt and have since got basic accounts with Nationwide and Co-op. The Co-op account has an Electron card too. You can apply online with Nationwide and on the phone with Co-op. They both have online banking too.
Details for both are on their websites (sorry no links, but you can google them). HTH.0 -

A selection! You shouldn't need a credit check to apply for any of these I think. Think some leglistation came in recently where a bank HAS to offer a basic account with no credit checks, credit facilites etc.0 -
Yep, it is important to choose a bank that has no associations with your creditors. Have a read of this thread:

Hope it helps and good luck.
