I'm really pleased to have lost 2 stone :j

I've gone from 13 stone  down to just below 11 :)

I'm 5' 7" female (when I last looked) :rotfl:

Probably hope to lose about another 1/2 stone if I can. So not finished yet! Although I didn't really have a target in mind except to be less lardy!

Enough boasting :o

I've now got a huge pile of clothes that are too big for me. My question is do I get rid of them to charity shops / clothes bank

or

keep them just in case I put it all back on again one day :o

My weight has gone up and down a few times over the years :o

I haven't needed to buy new clothes as I had quite a lot 'in storage' that didn't fit me before so I'm really pleased to be able to wear some 'new' and different things without having to buy them! :T

My question:

In true moneysaving thoughts I really don't want to have to buy a load of clothes again!

What would you do?

    Well done!

I'm going through similar at the moment - down from 14 stone to 13 3lb, although my clothes are not yet too big, just slightly comfier than they were before! If you've got room, I would suggest keeping them for a while until you are sure you won't put the weight back on. I have a colleague who goes from size 8 to 18 and back again, and she keeps all her fat and thin clothes!

I have gone up and down the scales a few times in my life.

I have tried throwing out too big clothes and ended up having to buy more

This time I am trying a new tack. As clothes get too big I am sorting them into three piles.

1 Throw away - we all have stuff we keep wearing because "it will do for now"

2 Good enough to send to charity and I am sick of it / it's out of date etc.

3 Keep - these get washed ironed and stored in good boxes in the loft just in case.

It could be seen as defeatist but I hope that if I get to the point of needing to bring a box down again it will shock me into getting back on track. If I can maintain any loss for a year Then I am going to start getting rid of the boxes. One every three months, largest sizes first. Kind of an incentive scheme. I think it will give me a lot of satisfaction and reinforce what I've achieved because I can try them on and see the difference.

Got two boxes up there now working on No3

Well done with your weightloss. Brilliant result
  • I've lost 4 1/2 stone, everything that's too big is going, so that I don't allow myself the option of just digging out a 'comfier' pair of jeans if I put a bit back on... I think not having bigger clothes is a good motovation to keep the weight off!

I'm with you foreign correspondent. I've lost 3st from 13st 9 and have just a couple of pounds to go. All the big stuff has gone. I must admit to wearing most of the everyday stuff until it was only fit for the bin. Other stuff went to CS. I had a few smaller items that I'd kept but mostly I've managed with CS buys to keep me going while the lbs have been disappearing. I bought three pairs of M&S trousers to see me through the summer but almost all my tops have come from CS. The reason is that when I was big I tended to just wear black from head to toe. Now I'm keen to wear colours but not so keen that I want to spend a lot of money 'til I'm confident the colours suit.

I'm sitting here now in a bright pink Fat Face top that cost me £3.50. I've already worn it 3/4 times so the 'cost per wear' is down to pennies already.

Good Luck, whatever you decide vyvyan. It's a lovely dilemma to have:D

If you have friends larger than you and who would not be offended perhaps offer to them. I used to have a friend who was only slightly larger and she was not well off. I used to say that I had a bag of clothes size X for her, anything she did not want please take to a local charity shop (We have 9 or 10!!) It meant that if there were clothes I could not quite make up my mind about, the fact that they were going to a good home (probably) made me a bit more ruthless!!

Another idea: do you have a second hand dress agency locally? particularly good if you have 'labels.'

I lost weight and then put it back and the clothes hve all gone. I might be tempted to keep the very best/ expensive/favourite items.

I'm agree with foreign correspondent and maman.
If you keep your big clothes, you think you will regain weight, and if you think so, it will happen.
If you want to be slim, you have to think about yourself as a slim person. Everything is in your mind.

  • Have you tried freecycle? I'm sure someone would love a whole load of clothes.
  • I'm in a similar position too. I can use a sewing machine and overlock machine so I will be trying to save a few pennies by altering my clothes.
