I'm off work today and I got a phone call from First Plus saying I hadn't paid last months DD - turns out they hadn't set it up! (Going to report them to the FSA..)
Anyhoo, I stayed calm and got chatting to the lad on the phone and we started talking about money in general and how times are hard after Christmas.
He mentioned his GF having problems with bounced direct debits and the amount of fees charged.
So there I am sitting in me dressing gown with a cup of tea, on the phone to a financial company giving one of their trained financial staff directions to this site and a brief rundown of how to claim back charges.
He'd never heard of how to do it, never heard of MSE and we had a great laugh about me advising him !
Turned a nasty stressful call into something lighthearted and v funny...
Oh the irony! :rotfl:

You did say 'trained' financial staff, didn't you Sass?

Wouldn't have hurt him to have checked his facts before calling you.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

and maybe he will learn what first plus are really like, how quality his employer is ! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I did very similar with a man at Egg when I called to increase my loan payment. He was very impressed how quickly I had paid off my credit card and how soon my loan would be gone and said he wished he could do the same. I told him about snowballing and advised him to look on here. I sometimes wonder if he ever did!0

Greypilgrim - Well, I did say if him and his GF made any cash could I have a cut? Which was funny - Actually I hope he does come here to be honest, best thing I did!
Rog2 - yes, the thought of `trained' staff did go through my mind as well! Hmmm. Whatever he was, after the really rude Lloyds TSB indian call centre bloke actually daring to use the word liar to me on Tuesday, at least this blokey listened to what I was saying and was polite!
Lynpower - Hmmm, First Plus aren't the best. Maybe this fella's new or failing that, so fed he doesn't care and is about to leave!!! lol I've also asked FP manager to write to me by next Friday they have made this mistake, and that the direct debit has now been set up. I told them if they don't I'll be speaking to my solicitor next week. I want them to admit their mistake in writing so i can complain to the FSA.
Hope you've all had a good New Year's by the way xxCurrent debt and mortgage: £25, 820.35 Debt/Mortgage at start: £92,598 (27/09/2010)
