Wonga

I have an outsanding debt for Wonga - I think originally it was something like £200 but will be well over £2000 by now. I defaulted in about September last year and cancelled by debit cards so they have not been able to take any money out of my account. They were emailing me and sending letters and I was in correspondence about them regarding setting up a repayment schedule, but had asked for a bank account and sort code to send it to but they wanted a debit card. Any way at that point quite a number of things happened - my mother-in-law died of lung cancer, my 3 year old (who has birth deformities) was admitted to hospital for operations and I had another baby and have not had any contact with them since this. However, I have had a couple of emails saying things like, apologising for any correspondence I had received regarding an outstanding balance as this was due to an error and another one telling me I could take out another loan which I find a bit strange. Should I try and contact them again about repayments, I am only on SMP until February next year before I go back to work - or should I wait until they or a debt collector contact me - as I am on reduced income at the moment, I would rather not have to pay it until I am back at work? Thanks.

    Hi

You need to write to them and try to send a cheque or postal order with money towards the debt. Do not provide your bank account details or your ebt card details, they will clear you out and leave you nothing with which to feed the children.

What do you have around the house that you can sell to start reducing this debt?

i had a loan with wonga and defaulted march 2010. i set up a repayment plan with them, but then i had several dca's contacting me offering me a full and final settlement. It all got very confusing as I didnt know who was dealing with my case, i emailed wonga several times but they never replied.
i recently had an email saying 'we appologise but we sent you an email saying your loan was settled, but actually it is not' and it has been passed to a dca. when i log in on the website it now says that it has been passed to a dca and i should wait for contact from them. I have been waiting 4 weeks so far and not heard a thing.
I have emailed wonga but no reply, and I haven't got a reference number or anything so I guess I will just wait!

Update - Just received an email today from a company called Gothia saying they now own the debt - now standing at over £3135 - I have looked back at the original default email from Wonga which was for £1095 - so they have added more than £2000 in fees and interest! - the email directs to a website for Gothia but doesn't give much option about setting up a payment schedule - just offering a £500 discount if I pay now. Any advice on how to handle this one - can I object to the excessive fees and interest applied in 11 months? Should I go straight for asking them to take me to court? Thank you.

I can't offer advice on this but just wanted to bump it back to the front page.

    Good luck,
