Just got to tell you about Comet!!

Been into Comet today to buy a Humax PVR9200T. We'd seen it up the road in Curry at £179.99 and at Comet it was £199.99, so we wanted a price-match. Whilst we were there DH saw a Sony Ericsson mobile - k750i, he's broken his old one this week and needed to replace it. The deal in Comet was to buy the phone for £89.99 including a £10 top-up e-voucher, and get a Proline DVD player for free. We didn't want a DVD player, and asked if we could leave it and get a bit more knocked off the recorder instead. No can do said the salesman. We settled for a price-match plus 10% of the difference on the Humax and took the phone and free DVD player as well. We were at the till for ages, the assistant had to ring Currys to check the price on the Humax, then there was a problem with the phone, etc. etc. So eventually we came away with the Humax recorder, a phone and a DVD player we didn't really need. We thought about ebaying it, but it's not worth much anyway. Just as we were about to leave the store, a guy turned up at the next till with a Proline DVD player, the same as we'd just got for free. We asked him how much it was going to cost - he said £25. We asked him if he'd like one cheaper, and sold him ours for half price, so £12.50!!! He must have thought it was his lucky day, and we had the same thought!!
So in essence we got the phone for a good price, price-matched on the Humax plus a bit more off, then another £12.50 off that, and off-loaded a DVD player we didn't need. Sorry about the long post, I just had to tell someone!!

Thats fine, as long as the phone doesn't go wrong and you need to take it back.

Mind you with Comet's lack of knowledge of the Sale of Goods Act it probably won't make any difference anyway.

And of course the guy who bought the cheap DVD player has no proof of purchase, no warranty, or any come back under SoGA, but for £12.50, maybe he isn't bothered, as long as it works when he gets it home

We got the phone with DVD player on a separate receipt from the Humax. We've given the guy who had the recorder off us our mobile number in case he needs to return it for any reason, so I think we've covered all the bases there!!
TBH for £12.50 if he gets a year's use out of it, I think he won't be complaining!!

You don't necessarally need a reciept if it is a brand that comet only do

True, but is "Proline" Comets own brand? I have assumed it isn't!
Anyway, it seems like soba has it covered,(post #6)

A DVD player for £12.50? I think i would have taken the risk too. Well done to the OP, top bargain!

    Not necessarily.

If it has a decent picture and sound yes, but some ultra cheap DVD players give a terrible picture and poor quality sound.

I’m just feeling philosophical in the early hours and that comment is not aimed at you or anyone. I love a bargain as much as anyone.

The guy who bought the DVD player was already intending to purchase the exact same model, but got it half price because of the OP. So a top bargain.

I personally, need a dvd player for work and i don't need an all singing all dancing model, just something i can watch the latest episodes of BSG, Lost, South park etc on, so for me, that would have been a great deal!!
