stale water smell in wet/dry epilator

Hi,

I have a braun silk-epil wet/dry epilator, that I find easier to use in the shower. I rinse it each time and leave it standing upright (on its head IYKWIM) so it drains.

But it STINKS  :( That horrible stale water smell you get when dishclothes get left wet. Its awful. I have tried rinsing it again in really hot water and leaving the head off to dry, but it still stinks

Please help!!

  • Honestly I have never used an epilator and know very little about them but I wonder about dunking it in white vinegar - I know it works on the washing machine :) as it's anti bacterial

I was going to suggest similar (mixing up a pot of cleaning fluid like flash or something similar and a little water and leaving for a few hours/overnight) but vinegar should do the trick and may be a bit more affordable.

Just wondering what the smell could be: if its mould it may be harder to get rid of as it may require some scrubbing (if mould has grown onto something its not so easy to soak off, it needs to be scrubbed off). But if it is just stale water- water is caught and you can hear/see water then rinsing it or having it on whilst rinsing or dunking it should help flush it through.

Vinegar is great as it gets rid of limescale build up.
If after the vinegar, there is still a smell, try hydrogen peroxide.
Make sure you rinse well between, and don't mix the vinegar with hydrogen peroxide.
