I used to use Aveda Detoxifying shampoo when i used to go swimming or if i was colouring my hair as it would get rid of the build up of product etc
But its been discontinued and I cannot get hold of it anywhere.
Does anyone know of a brand easily available that does the same thing?

I've been using a Herbal Essences clarifying shampoo to get me through a MASSIVE bottle of Pantene i mistakenly bought. It works fine.0

Is that the same as a clarifying shampoo?
I find the Pantene Clarifying shampoo to be quite good. I think Superdrug also do one, G O S H I think it's called0 -
I always thought that pantene was bad for your hair (even though ive used it many times)0

When I go swimming I use the B**ts Sun,Swim + Gym shampoo - found this really good quite often on offer in B**ts tooDon't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend...

I bought a huge bottle because it was cheap but it leaves my hair really greasy looking every 3 or 4 washes so i alternate it with a clarifying shampoo. I think it's the silicone in the pantene.0 -
I think you get silicone build up with Pantene. It makes your hair feel soft/silky but thats because of the layer of plastic stuff on the hair. I try to use silicone free shampoos now and my hair rarely needs conditioner anymore (unlessI've been swimming).
For after swimming I like the B**ts sun & swim shampoo too but Lush Daddy-O shampoo was good as it seemed to counteract the after swim green effect in my dyed blonde hair."I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants." A. Whitney Brown0 -
Ooh so are there any high street brands that are silicone free?0

Beer. All seriousness, no jokes. Wash your hair with ale, it comes out beautifully light and shiny. It seems to remove the impurities well.
Personally I use Pantene and have no trouble with it at all. Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

On the makeup alley boards the clarifying shampoo of choice seems to be the Redken version. (Similar prices to Aveda, have seen it in this country and it comes in a white bottle).
It is the silicons in the pantene which seem to bring on the problems with the brand. Its fine if you want to use this brand forever and ever but the issue with too many silicons is basicly that it coats your hair.
This again is fine if you want it coated and some people do, but as the hair is coated, it cannot soak up the natural oils in the scalp and so becomes drier (silicons are not there to moisturise!) as the hair becomes drier it becomes prone to damage and becomes frizzy, you may find split ends happen sooner and frizz occurs unless you use more pantene and so on...
Panetene is known for using a variety of 'cones (silicones are one type, there are many other varieties the tell tell sign being the words ending with the word 'cone, hence the wording!) its a personal choice but many find they prefer not to use silicons as hair is all the better for it long term and as a result of fewer split ends can be grown longer.0
