Credit Reports - History

Does anyone know how long past payment history stays on your credit report...?

Almost four years ago I didn't pay my credit card for one month, and it's still affecting my credit rating...grrrrrr.

Thanks

  • Account performance data will remain on your file for 6 years from the date of event, or from the date of account closure / satisfaction.

Therefore if you have a “live” account the data will naturally drop off of the end of the history trail after 6 years from when the entry was made, However if for example your had negative history from 5 years and 11 months ago, and then closed the account, the total time the data would take to expire would be nearer 12 years!

Hence why in a lot of cases it is actually “better” to default on an account as this will expire 6 years from the date of default regardless of any history prior to the default
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them
