I am in the process of applying for a joint DAS with my husband. Is it possible/advisable to go down the route of reclaiming bank and credit card charges once we are approved for DAS?

Just a thought - have you considered a Protected Trust Deed? This normally lasts for 3 years (although your credit rating will be shot for 6 years)
It is only available to residents of Scotland and is well worth considering if your unsecured debts are more than 10k.
You don't need to pay for advice as your local council should have a money advice service and they will give you all the information you require. I was in the unfortunate position of having to do this quite a number of years ago and the help I received was invaluable.
It's not an easy option by any means but the sense of relief when all those phone calls and letters stop is overwhelming.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do
