Incorrect default on credit file

Hi all,

Quick question; my boyfriend recently got a copy of his credit file from Experian and saw that there is a default registered by a company called Arrow Global Ltd with reference to 'mail order'. It's only £206 but he is insistent it's not something he knows about. What's more intriguing is the date of birth registered is completely wrong at 02/03/61 whereas he was born in August '86!

He phoned Arrow Global who said they need evidence that it wasn't him and that he wasn't living there at the time. The thing is, whatever the debt was, was started right at the time of him moving and all he can find for proof of address from back then is his payslips, one for that month showing he was at the address and then the next month had been updated to his new address. He can't remember the specific dates he moved.

Can he send a notice of correction to Experian to say it's in dispute as he thinks this has nothing to do with him? And what should he do with Arrow Global; send them proof of ID that shows his DOB?

Thanks (and sorry for the long post!).

Arrow have to prove it is his debt, not him to prove it isn't. Now clearly in this case its not his debt, it belongs to a person with the same name but who is much older that your OH.
I would contact experian and tell them he disputes the debt is his, its the wrong DOB and nothing to do with him (don't do a notice of correction as that is just aa note they show on his file they don't actually investigate).
Then he needs to write to arrow dispute any knowledge of the debt, point out its not his DOB and require them to remove it from his credit file with immediate effect or to provide proof that the debt exists and is his.
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give
or "It costs nowt to be nice"
  • Thanks Tixy - I will tell him to make contact with Experian and also fire off a letter to Global Arrow.
