I wish life ws so much easier, I was woken this morning with a man and his van, time 06.15 demanding payment from Derbyshire County Council, he either wanted cash or my valuables amounting to £371.50. He wouldn't tell me why and what it was for anyway I have given my card details to him to take the money from my account on Friday. I still don't know what it is for and haven't been in Derbyshire at all in the kast 2 years.......

well if you don't know what it's for, ring your bank and stop your card. Then find out from derbyshire county council what the money is for. It's easy to contact the council by phone so just look their number up on the Internet and give them a ring.0

You've given him your bank card details without knowing what the debt was for? Personally I'd be cancelling the card with the bank asap (and hoping he hasn't yet taken anything from it) and first finding out who you owe, for what and checking that they haven't added on any illegal fees (not uncommon with bailiffs).
Only when you are satisfied that you owe the money and the balance is correct would I consider paying them. And even then I wouldn't give them card details.
Edit - to the poll at the top. Bailiffs are appointed by courts to enforce debt collection when other methods of collection have been unsuccessful.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
A random in a van banged on your door and demanded card details for a debt you don't know about?
Think I know what I'll be trying tomorrow morning. I'll be DF by lunchtime if most people are as gullible as this.0 -
I read this with disbelief. Is it for real? Surely no-one in their right mind would hand over bank details to someone who appeared at their door in the morning, for something they don't know about? Methinks there's something fishy about all this.Always remember, every cloud has a silver lining:rotfl:0
