Ticket, but machine's did not work

Hi
(Hopefully I'm in the right forum now. Apologies for my ineptitude.)
I've read the advice, which in the main seems to be to ignore these private parking tickets.
However, having a genuine reason for appeal, it goes against the grain to do nothing.
I received a ticket last week from Excel. Our car is registered to me, but my husband was the driver, I was at work. At this particular car park there are 2 ticket machines. He tried to get a ticket from both, but both machines would not accept the money - it kept coming back out. Not realising that the car park is enforced through cameras taking footage as you enter and leave, he left a note in the car (for any inspector) to read to explain. He also saw another driver having similar problems.
Having read all the threads I doubt whether the company would even take any steps to investgate the appeal. But to ignore doesn't seem right. In the very unlikely event that they took us to Court, it would not look good to say we just ignored it - if we did have a genuine reason for appeal.
I'm thinking of writing to say I was not the driver, that I've spoken to the driver who tells me both machnes were not working and leave it at that. I would not provide the driver's details and not give any further information other than details about what the 2 machines did (didn't do) on the day.
What do others think?
Thanks

There is no appeal, you are dealing with Greedy scammers, all appeals are automatically rejected and they hang you on the meat hook as a live bite..
Plenty of evidence reports that if you pay, they come back for more money claiming you paid late .
The best advice in these circumstances is to completely ignore them, they will get your details from DVLA and send a series of threatening letters including fake solicitors and debt collecting letters full of ever increasing worthless threats of non existent court action and the eventually move on and give up.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Think of it as a phishing email. Does ignoring the scam seem right now?PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I also was a bit concerned about ignoring at first and did in fact contact Parking Spy when they sent me a letter once.
However ignoring them is the way to deal with them because they are not reasonable in their response. I also think that you could gather enough evidence to show a judge that if you contact these companies all you receive is lies and misquotes.
However the chances of them ever going near a court are so remote its not even worth thinking about a defence.
Ignoring them from the outset is the way to go.
PS: do you think they don't know their machines were faulty on that day?0
