Very long story short ...
Back in summer 2004 i took a loan out for £1500 a few months after that i borrowed a further £1000 with my x girlfriend as a joint loan. We split in 2005 an i was devastated to find that with interest i owed them £6,000+ back! Since then although i paid my half of the debt for a couple of yrs she never paid a penny my credit got destroyed and still is. I never spoke or paid a penny to them for a few yrs now (out of protest that they've always harassed me for the debt an never her). So i havent spoken to or dealt with them since 2009 even then that was debt collector (lewis i think?)
I want this thing gone, its been a ball and chain for too many years and ive realised im just goin to have to bite the bullit and pay it all off myself. I think last time i spoke with them the balance was around the £4000 mark (altho ive not paid that much off myself i think they knocked off some interest).
Im wondering 2 things -
1) Has anyone else had dealings with these rip off scum and settled their debts, i mean if its at a debt collection agency im sure they accept alot lower than £4k (thinking of saving an offering £1000?)
2) Since the original paperwork was signed back in 2004, im wondering if they still have the original copies. Is it worth sending them a letter asking for the original agreement and disputing the debt?

yes i've had a welcome finance loan for the last 5 years! In brief i had to buy out an ex partner and as i live in a shared ownership house welcome were the only ones who would lend.
I pay £179 per month and around £135 of that is interest - i wish i'd had another option but there wasn't anything available :0(
Its worth asking for the original paperwork - hopefully they will be incompetent at admin!!0
