Debt letter received - help needed

Hi all,
My husband received a letter from Buchanan Clark and Wells a few weeks ago saying that they have been instructed by Aktiv Kapital UK Limited to recover an over due debt of £280.03 for a Barclays account. We did not act upon this first letter as my hubby said he didn't know when/what it was from.
He received another letter today, again from BCW, advising that he speak with them, they will be able to negotiate with Aktiv, but if he doesn't the account will be passed on for a 'Personal Visit to your home address'.
He immediately phoned them today and was asked to confirm his DOB, which he refused to do. They are saying that the debt is from 1998 and provided him with the account number. My hubby told them he would check his records and get back to them; he did not acknowledge the debt.
I'm just wondering what you guys would advise as the next step...statute barred letter or CCA letter requesting a copy of the credit agreement? The more I think about it, the more panicy I get
Thanks in advance

This over due debt may have accumulated from what was once a very small amount, especially over 13 years (it could of been like £10 but grew due to interest).
Either way send the letter fermi mentioned and then see what comes back.
I dont see the point in been awkward about it and your husband sounds silly about not confirming his DOB.
Dont bury your head in the sand about it!0
