I am applying for a job. The thing is, my current employer can be the 1st reference. Who can be my 2nd? As I was temping with a couple of agencies for 5 months before I started my current job - both have disappeared as their offices are empty. My two previous perm employers have gone as well. This brings it to 2005. Then I haven't got a clue regarding my line manager's name from six years ago, if she is still there. But, some potential employers will find a reference from a job which I left 6 years ago a bit too far back. Plus I have changed a lot into a better person.

A former colleague? Or someone outside work, if you've held a voluntary position like secretary of some club or other? Or someone you know like vicar, doctor or something respectable?0

You can choose a 'Friend Reference' but they must be in employment ,and you have to give over - full name - full address including postcode - and phone numbers . They will contact said person through phone first ,then mail . Or ,you can pop into your local church and ask for a personal reference from them (did that myself ,even though I'm not a practicing catholic) .Good luckI once prayed to god for a bike, but quickly found out he didnt work that way...so I stole a bike and prayed for his forgiveness .........0

I will ask a few family friends how know me very well. Yes I am looking to leave Sainsburys as I am fed up of asking to be trained on the kiosk/CSD when others have asked and been trained. Colleagues are baffled as to why that is. Line manager says thats OK, but the HR team say no. Colleagues say I would be excellent working on the kiosk/CSD. Both the kiosk and CSD are together as its a small store. Bigger stores have seperate kiosk and customer service desks.
Also there have been times of sickness, where if I was kiosk trained, I would easily helped out.0
