Help, jogging motivation!

I have recently decided to get off my lazy a*se and get in shape. My goal is to get into the RAF, which means I need to pass all sorts of interviews and tests, including a physical test. This means I need to do 7 press ups in a minute, 22 sit ups in a minute and run 2.4km in 13 minutes 23 seconds. My current 2.4km time is 23:51:eek:, so obviously needs a lot of improvement.

I'm currently following this guide http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2008/jan/07/healthandwellbeing.fitness1 to get myself kick-started. Planning of following that till I finish week 6 and then switch to the RAF 6-week training guide. I'm currently on week 3, I did Day 3 today and felt like I was going to expire about halfway through. On days like these it sort of dents my motivation, along with the fact that I run very slowly. Sometimes I feel like I'm not getting anywhere, nevermind running 2.4km in 13 minutes!

Anyone got any good tips for picking up pace and feeling more motivated?

Also, does anyone know where I can get some good cheap jogging bottoms that have pockets in them? I get a bit fed up of jogging about with my keys in my hand.

  • That looks like a good program but how active are you usually? It can be really easy to overdo things if you launch into a training program, and that will demotivate you fast!
Not sure if you are male or female but I get a lot of my running stuff from sheactive.
Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.

I'm female. Before I started I wasn't terribly active, though I did a few things, usually walk to the shops, jog up and down the stairs in the house. Not much I know:rotfl:

Obviously the motivation keeping me going at the moment is wanting to get into the RAF. I'll take a look at sheactive too.

I second the C25K - for a non runner for me, I progressed well very quickly... Once you have passed that you could go onto to the 10k one... but it's a starter for 10...

    Good luck x
