How to check if I am paying too much tax from working

I have seen the tax calculator but don't really understand it is there a simpler way?

    The tax calcultors are the simpler way, in fact they are over simplified, so that they always give the wrong answer for some people, and for others they may give the wrong answer under some circumstances.

    Your best bet is to give details on here and someone will check it for you. Best thing to do is take your last payslip and give all details from that.

    What details do you need? I have been at my current job only about 5 months. And was in my previous job 3 years. I'd like to check my partners for him too!

    Your tax code number would be the first thing. This is typically thre numecs followed by an alpha ie 747L. If there is anything after the alpha character this is important ie 747L M1. It may also be two alpha characters ie BR.
    This should be on your payslip, can you find it?
    The only thing that is constant is change.

    The best thing to do is give all the details, copy headings and what is printed for those headings for all items on payslip.
