Hallo everyone
Just wanted to get something off my chest really. I have been trying to sort my finances for a few months now but seem to be getting deeper into debt. Finally yesterday I faced up to the truth that I wasn't coping and called Payplan. To be honest I was terrified and ashamed, but after speaking to them I am feeling a little better. I just have to get my stuff together for my phone interview on sunday. I am still feeling a little nervous of what to expect as the only thing I know about DMP's is what I have read on here. I hope I am doing the right thing.
Anyway I will stop waffling now. I just wanted to thank everyone on here because if I hadn't found this forum when I did I don't know what I would have done reaching the point i'm at now.
Big thank you and hugs:A

Hi malvena
I haven't had any dealing with PayPlan myself so I cannot say anything about them however I am sure some people will be along soon to reassure you. I'm sure you won't have to do anything that feels 'wrong' and they will be good with you.
You have taken the first steps on a new journey to debt free-ness and that's great! Keep looking forward!Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

Thanks Lookingahead.
I guess it's just the stepping into the unknown that makes me nervous.

Payplan have a good reputation.
The phone call will only consist of Payplan trying to put together a picture of your personal circumstances.
They will want to know your income, in detail.
They will want to know exactly how much you owe and to whom.
Then, from that, they will advise you as to whether they suggest a DMP, an IVA, or Bankruptcy.
If you disagree with what they say, you can always contact another free advisory service like Myvesta, CCCS, or the CAB.
For myself in the beginning the most horrendous part was in telling a complete and total stranger all my personal affairs, which is something none of us usually do! However, they are all very professional at what they do and will not make you feel embarrassed or ashamed however much debt you are in. Remember, like GP's, they have heard it all before and more!! I thought that my debt was horrendous at £42K. Then I found this site and realised a lot of people were in debt much deeper than that, even well over £100K, and some a lot less than mine. Then you realise that it is like talking third party. You have a problem, you deal with it. "The Debt" is to be dealt with, not feared.
On this DFW board you will find lots of hints and tips on saving money on a regular basis - things you will not even have thought of!! That comes in handy. Even when you are debt-free you still want to get every last mile out of every £1 that you spend. It is good to learn control. My personal feelings are that credit cards in particular take away your own control. You don't see cc's as money because you don't actually have the money in your hand.
Good luck!0 -
