baby shower gifts? inexpensive ideas please

hi all

as the title suggest i would very much appreciate some ideas on some inexpensive baby shower gifts,

my mum has organised a baby shower for me and now all my friends are asking what they can get me, to be honest i have told them i would just appreciate thier time so i can have a catch up and a laugh before the baby gets here, i havent felt up to going out or seeing most of them recently due to sickness, sciatica and work.

i have bought loads of stuff that i want for this baby and stock up on nappies and wet wipes etc from some great deals i have seen on this website (thanks to all those who posted them)

but several of the friends are insisting they get me something even when i have suggested that they wait until the baby is here instead.

so does anyone have any cheap and inexpensive useful ideas that i could pass around please. x

thanks in advance

How about just telling them to get you a couple of novelty things like a fancy bib, comfort blanket (can get cheap winnie the pooh ones on Amazon), photo album, birth certificate tube, photo frame, Lamaze do some really nice brightly coloured baby bits and they're relatively cheap on Amazon too, keepsake box or a relaxing scented candle/bubble bath for you for afterwards! Hope this helps & good luck.

Just remembered you can get casting kits as well to take a cast of the babys hand or foot, if you'd want something like this. Otherwise you can get really nice handmade money boxes - I know Denby Pottery do them, or a children's set from Emma Bridgwater my neice loves hers now she's older! They would all be a bit different. Cath Kidston do nice baby bits as well...just a few more thoughts! Anyway, good luck with it all!
  • I always get things like bigger sized nappies, wet wipes, socks, baby bath, hair brush, shampoo, bath wash, sudacrem etc when I go to baby showers. I know you think you've got enough toiletries - but you may be suprised how much you go through!

Do you mean ideas for you? What about baby and parenting magazines? Baby food? Or vouchers for baby sitting? Voucher for cooking you a meal? Ironing voucher?

What about a donation to some reusable nappies or wipes. I was shocked at how much wipes alone cost and I am hoping to use birth to potty nappies with reusable wipes (this is my first baby so I could be deluding myself into this but I'd like to think I can do it). Maybe they could offer to donate somemoney towards this as it would save you a fortune in the long run.

A friend of mine gave me a booklet she had made on the computer with coupons/promises for after the baby was born eg. A Sunday Roast for 2 delivered to your door, A Basket of Clothes Ironed, Picnic lunch delivered to your door etc I imagine it depends how close you are to some of your friends but the help after hubby had gone back to work was worth more than money could buy.

thanks people, the vouchers sound like a good idea, ie for cooking a dinner or some ironing, im likeing the sound of that. x

mr knight, nope sorry am no way going to be using reusable nappies, did try it previously for a short while with mmy youngest (now 9 ) but with working full time and kids and hubby and housework etc i am not going to be stressing over getting nappies and wipes clean.

have bought the blender already as the boys wanted to make smoothies the other weekend, managed to get it half price then an extra 10% off lol

i like the photobook idea too. x

thankyou some food for thought, will pass on the ideas to my mum and she can talk to the others, i really hate asking for things, we are all really close and do stuff for each other all the time but i get a bit uncomfortable when people try and do stuff fro me, lol
