Advice on getting finance for a motorcycle?

Ok, pretty self explainatory but there's a catch, I'm unemployed and on jobseekers (Yeah I know :( ). I'm really struggling to find a job within public transport distance so I'm looking at getting a scooter so I can widen my search.

I'm looking for some options for getting it on finance, my credit rating is pretty average, I've had a credit card for the past year and I've been paying for things on that and paying it off relatively quickly, but I can't see this upping my credit rating a huge amount. Outside of that I haven't done anything to increase or lower my rating.

Would be looking at spending under £1000 on it all (including scooter, getting it registered, and all my safety gear) so the loan would be for around that mark.

Thanks in advance :)

You'll need an income before anyone will lend you money.

Are there not still scheme through the JC that allow a loan for a scooter? Or is that only on an offer of employment?

Hmm, did they ever do that? I'll have to call them tomorrow to ask. You sure there's absolutely nobody that'll have me? 0.0

If you were lending someone money, you would want to know that you are going to be paid back.

Banks are no different you cannot prove you will pay it back.

'Spose you could hang around Tottenham tonight, near by a scooter shop - you may get lucky.

It would not be responsible lending if they did, or responsible borrowing on your part. You would be best buying a push bike, ignore the insensative person before who doesnt think about the people getting hurt or lives damaged
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

We don't know how old you are, but if you're young and living at home, apply to the bank of Mum & Dad. I would gladly 'lend' my son /daughter a grand to help in job search.

Parents aren't exactly in a good place money-wise at the moment, everything seems to be going wrong for them with several appliances going on the blink, the car being written off. One of the reasons why I want to find a job so badly is to help them out.

But yeah, how about a Hire Purchase, does anyone know of anywhere that does these for scooters? (this probably belongs in another part of the forums but oh well, worth asking).

    Hero9989,

I applaud you for trying to find ways to expand your job search, but can I suggest that you hang fire on getting your scooter. After all, you don't know yet where your new job will be (you've obviously got a good head on your shoulders so I'm sure you'll get one soon). If it is local or on a good bus route then you won't even need the scooter. If it is somewhere not easy to get to you will have a little time to sort out transport, the job centre might be able to help out with transport costs, it might be somewhere you can cycle to or you may find that a workmate can offer you a lift if you contribute petrol money. In other words, the scooter is a solution to a problem you don't have yet! Concentrate on finding your new job - I wish you all the best with this.

Edit: Just checked and as a previous poster stated some job centres/Connexions centres offer scooter loans to young people with a job offer and problems with transport.

That is true, I suppose you're right, but it's also true I don't want to be rushing around last second trying to find one if the need arises. So it still stands that I should look around now to see what's out there.

I'll definitely ask next time I'm in the area about that transport loan though. Where did you find info about it?
