Orange - Tessera Credit Services Ltd t/a Rockwell

Hi

I'll keep this as brief as possible and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have received correspondence from at least one agency last year alleging that I owed £142 and advising me that the debt had been assigned to them.

On each occasion, I wrote back advising that the debt was not acknowledged, as the alleged debt related to a mobile phone supplied by Orange at the beginning of 2009. I had been a customer of o2 for about 6 or 7 years at that time and categorically knew that I had no dealings with Orange.

The matter kept resurrecting itself and eventually I phoned the last agency and explained politely but firmly that the debt was nothing to do with me and that I had had problems with various alleged debts at a property that I had rented for a few years where the previous tentants had run up all sorts of debts, and that I was sick and tired of having to write time after time to the various agencies to confirm that the debts were nothing to do with me.

Going back to the debt with Orange, all went quiet for about the last 12 months, but a few days ago I received a letter from Tessera Credit Services Ltd t/a Rockwell alleging the same debt of £142 in connection with Orange.

I ignored it but today received one of their automated calls and rather than ignore it, I pressed 1 to speak to an operator as I wanted to nip it in the bud.

Interestingly, I managed to establish that the debt did not arise in connection with the rented address that I though it had, but in fact an address which I used to own and live in up until July 2004.

This clearly pre-dates the date that the phone contract was opened, ie January 2009, by some 4.5 years.

I spoke to Rockwell again later this afternoon, and they confirm that they have carried out the necessary checks (Electoral Roll I believe)which establish that I did indeed move from that address in July 2004.

They have advised me that they have instigated a referral back to Orange and that I won't receive any more letters of phone calls, unless Orange can provide evidence to prove that I opened the account.

The operative said that if such evidence was produced and I did not accept it, then I should report the matter to the Police as potential fraud.

It seems clear to me that someone has gone into an Orange shop somewhere, claiming to be me, and wandered out with a shiny new phone and never paid a penny for it.

I'm not losing sleep over this as I know that I am telling the truth, but I am sick and tired of having to go over it again and again, on top of all the problems that I had at the previous address that had nothing to do with me.

They've all died a death and it's just this one that keeps resurrecting itself.

I guess the question is, do I sit back for the next 30 days and if I've heard nothing, phone them again to clarify that they and Orange consider the matter closed, or is there anything that I can do to be more pro-active?

Sorry, I tried to keep it brief! As said, and advice would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Richard

if it was fraud watch they dont cifas you, orange are hot on it
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I do subscribe to a multi agency credit report service as I have an impeccable credit history (and wish to keep it this way!)

There have been no CIFAS reports to date, despite this having reared it's head a few times - I'll keep my eye on it.

Ironically, I have two contracts now with Orange/T-mobile for me and my eldest daughter, both of which are completely up-to-date.

In addition, I know of the current owner of my old address - she is an elderly lady and hardly a candidate of being suspected of impersonating me!

    Cheers
    Richard
