RBS - Face to Face job interview - Screening Process
I will soon be attending the face to face interview for an RBS Retail Branch Customer Service Role - I am very confident about the interview, I have all the correct experience and know I have the skill set required.
What I am worried about is the screening process, many other threads I've looked at all mention a credit check. I recently just looked on my Equifax credit rating, the score was poor, this relates to an account on a mobile phone from 2006 - I've never looked at my credit file before and its says I have a poor rating. HOWEVER - I applied for a mortgage in June this year 2011 and have been accepted for this through Santander - I have no CCJ's or another bad credit, just this one blip from 2006. I was wondering if anyone knew what credit rating you need to pass this screening process. I have a credit card which I always pay and a mortgage which has been paid for the last 2 months.
Can someone specifically tell me if I will pass the credit check, and what scores/items do they look for?
Thank-you so much,
Steve

Your Equifax credit score means nothing, it's just a score assigned by them. All credit agencies have their own scoring system which will bear no relation (as you'll know) to each individual bank. RBS will have their own credit scoring system which they'll most likely use for you. If your only blip is from 2006 and you have no other defaults, CCJs or late payments in the last 6 years, then I can't see this would be an issue.
No-one can tell you what credit rating you need, as all credit agencies have their own scoring, and I'd be sure that RBS would use their own, not a credit agency. Besides which, they're savvy enough to look at the reasons why, rather than at a number which actually means very little.
Hope that helps reassure you - someone with specific experience of the RBS process may know more.

Score given by Experian and other agencies are just random numbers, as KiKi says it means nothing.
Every user of the information has their own scoring system. For job I suppose what they will want to know is whether you are in financial trouble that can make you act desperate and morally slip if the opportunity arises.
So I wouldn't worry.0 -
Thanks for that, I'm just stressing as this is such a good opportunity for me. I've never really checked my credit report and was quite shocked that I was classed as poor!! (Even by Equifax) well I have no other blips - Mobile phone bill always paid, credit card always paid, mortgage paid, student overdraft always paid, so really it is just one stupid mobile phone late payment - (I have found out I need to question this - wont go into details, however this was a dispute I had to an un-authed call to the USA - phone bill £350 - I'd never been to the USA) - O2 were investigating and suspended/limited my account for 3 months and then eventually credit noted my account - I have only realised that the 4 missed payments all relate to this - this the blip on my file.
Hopefully Im just worrying over nothing - but again I want this job so much - if anyone else has any other info please comment.
Will help my stress levels lol - thanks guys0 -

You should only check your report for information, mis-information and repayments. The score means nothing, don't stress over it.O2 were investigating and suspended/limited my account for 3 months and then eventually credit noted my account - I have only realised that the 4 missed payments all relate to this - this the blip on my file.
If this is wrong, then you can apply to get it amended by writing to the agency, and to O2. Do this ASAP so it doesn't affect you in the future.
