My neighbour applied for the above and I filled in the form for her. The qualification is that you must be in receipt of Rates Relief which she thought she was, but on the letter from the lands agency she gets her rates paid through Housing Benefit, which does not qualify.
When I looked through the websites I find that Rates Relief is paid if you are on low income and have savings of less than £50000 whereas Housing Benefit is paid if your savings are less than £16000.
On the face of it, this seems illogical, but what am I missing here? Any ideas?
My neighbour is over 70, lives alone and receives Pension Credit.
