CSA using tax credits - i need help

Hi all,

My husband has a daughter and we have 4 children together. We have always paid for his daughter as soon as we found out about her a few years ago but we have never met her and do not know where they are so cant talk to mother direct.

My husband lost his job at the end of last year. We notified CSA and they sent a letter to say we would not have to pay anything. I am self employed but currently struggling for work and not making much money...maybe £30 a week at the moment. However, I have just taken a new contract that should see good earnings in 6 months.

Subsequently, we get full housing and council tax benefit and our tax credits. plus disability allowance for one child.

Csa have now contacted us to say that they should be taking our tax credits and DLa tax credit allowance into account and we must now pay £40 a week including arrears.

As we are 'considered' under the poverty line this is only pushing us deeper. My husband is desperately looking for a job but we must consider the wage with csa payments/loss of tax credits.

Are we getting everything we are entitled to. Csa even suggested I give up self employment and he claim JSA so he only had to pay £5 and I had to explain that my husbands intention is not to avoid paying CM but rather to improve our own situation.

Can anybody offer advice?

    Hi

Sorry you've had no replies yet. Maybe try the benefit board to see if anyone can offer advice on there about your situation.
You might also want to look at the http://www.turn2us.org.uk/ to review your benefits etc.
