    suppose so but they would be wrong to suggest you borrow the additional funds with both fees and do a full credit score and affordability check for the sake of a rate - that is a bit disfunctional in my eyes

    It's not disfunctional if it's the cheapest option for the borrower. And credit scores and affordability checks shouldn't scare most people - most people earn more than they did when they took out the mortgage, and £1,500 is a trivial increase in balance so I think affordability is unlikely to be an issue for most people in these circumstances.
