Here it is:
starter - chestnut soup with 'rustic' olive bread (RTC 20p in sainsburys!;))
Main course Thriftlady's lentil flan recipe (thanks SO Much:)), roast potatoes with garlic, cabbage with apple and sultanas, carrots, parsnips, cranberry sauce,
desert - steamed pud with mincemeat mixed in.
I made it all except the bread, and the cranberries were RTC for 10p thats the only reason we have the sauce;)
THose of you who are veggies does that sound OK? Mum is a veggie but the in laws are not so hopefully they wonn't miss having meat.
Wish me luck for some reason I am nervous - its OH, me and mum and the in laws, first meal I have done for them since we got married.

Best of luck sarahsaver. Not that you'll need luck.
I admire you. Cooked for MIL once waaaay back. Never again. But then she has never cooked for me - just not her thing."You can't get a cup of tea big enough or a book long enough to suit me." - C.S. Lewis0 -
That sounds lovely Sarah. I am not a veggie but we eat mainly vegetarian meals during the week (a good way to save the pennies!)
Good luck, I am sure they will enjoy it.The Best Things in Life Are Free0 -
That sounds absolutely mouth-watering. I'm sure it will go brilliantly.
Good for you to take on the challenge. You can't lose with that menu  .
Edit: Got any custard for the pud?
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Sounds lovely, I hope the flan turns out Ok, it wasn't a very exact recipe, but I know you're an experienced cook

I haven't cooked for my mil for ages. She was always really complimentary though.0 -

Sounds fantastic - may "borrow" bits of this myself!
Still remember first time I cooked for the inlaws - very scarey! (Turned out fine tho'!)Resolution:

Bogof Babe, DH did some custard courtesy of Mr Tesco;)
It all went well, helped along by the bottle of Moet Hubby put in the fridge  and the second bottle of bubbly brought by the inlaws
I was worried about there being no meat, not from my point of view, but it was well received all round. PHEW!
Take this as proof it CAN be done - OS dinner parties on a tight as a duck's A*s budget;) (apart from the Moet, think it was one someone left behind at the engagement party LOL)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
