Beko (again)

Hi I am new to this Messageboard but feel people should know about the problems we are experiencing with our Beko FridgeFreezer.
It is not one of the ones that have been publicised recently as causing the fires but it seems it might have a similar problem.
We have only had it for 18 months but recently it has been constantly on (our Electricity Bill has gone through the roof). Yesterday it started to go wrong completely - the food in the freezer started to defrost (from the top down) and the fridge started to freeze (from the bottom up) so all my fruit and veg were frozen solid.
We have spoken to Beko and their first answer was to check the door seals :rotfl: We are currently waiting for them to call us back with what they intend to do.
We have switched it off completely now as I didn't want it overheating.
For your information it is an American Style Fridge Freezer with Serial No: 0910001003
I will update when we hear back from Beko.

We are on the phone to Beko at the moment. They are adamant it is not their problem. They manufacture the product for goodness sake! They only give 1 year Warranty so they obviously do not expect their products to last longer than a year They have said it is something for us to sort out with the retailer. You would think that with the problems they have had with their other fridge freezers that they might take a bit more interest in similar problems with later models. Watch this space!0

Beko will give us replacement parts as a "gesture of goodwill". Funny they seem to know what parts are needed before they have even looked at the fridge!
We will apparently have to pay for the labour though. As an aside we bought the fridge freezer from Jual Domestics who went into administration yesterday (great timing). So the argument that Beko gave us about dealing with the retailer cannot happen.
Do I feel happy still having a Beko Fridge Freezer? No I do not.
Even if we bother getting it mended I will worry that we will have further problems (or worse). My advice is to not buy a Beko product. When you search online, there are lots of people who have had problems with them (not only fridge freezers).0 -
We had a Beko cooker which gave us nothing but trouble for 8 years - parts would fail every few months, get replaced & then fail again. In the end I got so fed up with it I just threw it in the garden & ordered a new one (not Beko this time of course).0

We had a beko freezer, it lasted one day over it's warranty. Needless to say, wont be buying from them again!"Live each day as if it were your last and garden as though you will live forever"

I'm sure that things like this are expected to last longer than the guarantee' period, and that there is provision in one of the consumer laws that could well extend the liability/responsibility of the manufacturer.
Try the CAB or have a search on one of the other forums here - such as "Consumer Rights" - someone might be able to give you some advice.0 -
Goods should be 'fit for purpose' shouldn't they?? So obviously a fridge/freezer that lasts for a year isn't!!0

Yes, that's what I was thinking of - I seem to remember Dom (the TV chap) managed to get somebody's goods replaced/repaired after the guarantee period and talked about the 'fit for purpose' clause in some Act or other.0 -
Beko are still adamant that they will pay for the parts required but will not pay for the labour to fit them.
When we asked how much the call out charge is for one of their contracted engineers the person on the end of the phone said they would put us on hold to find out. As it was all they did was to transfer us to one of their 3rd party engineers. This apparently happens all the time according to the engineer we spoke to - he said it is Beko's way of "getting rid of the call".
I have contacted Dom Littlewood at the BBC One Show to see whether he can offer us any advice.0 -
