Budget washing powder Vs expensive brands?

Hello! I have been using a supermarkets own brand budget washing powder for a couple of years now and for the most part it's been great, it still gets all the stains out the kids and OH clothes etc! However when I use it to handwash some items of mine, a few tops etc that I don't want to risk in the machine, I've noticed that very small holes are appearing in them, especially the cotton tops.
I thought it was the machine that was causing this so I started handwashing more stuff but now these holes are appearing in all my cotton stuff. Is budget washing powder more abrasive? Should I go back to a more expensive brand? Or perhaps it's the fabric conditioner causing it - maybe I am using too much (very hard water area!)
Has anyone else had experience of this? These holes look like small cigeratte burns - except I haven't been aware near any smokers!
Any thoughts appreciated - I am at my wits end lol!

As long as you thoroughly dissolve the detergent in the water before adding clothes then no powder should do that. Are you drying the clothes quick enough?:footie:

Hi
No i get this too! I buy whatever is on offer so just thought it maybe the machine. Confussed now as yo9u hand wash. Maybe its the clothes themseleves? Its mostly my clothes that get it too (spend more on the kids clothes and OH than mine ;-))
Oh and i use liquid too rather than powder.0 -
This has happened to me! Only my tops. I thought it was the mashing machine too.....till I hotice the wood on the side of my worktop had a splinter sticking out by the sink and that's how my tops got damaged. I've ruined 4! Great excuset o get new ones though! So once I realised the culprit I removed it & sanded it down.
