Emergancy tax

My experience of emergency tax is this. The government will steal the money from your pay packet and you'll never see it ever. You will however waste countless hours jumping through a million hoops and waste even more of your hard earned money in the process.
9 months later and £25+ spent and I've yet to see a penny.0 -
I've overpaid tax twice, a couple of years ago, and a few years before that. Both times it took just one phone call to the relevant tax office to get it refunded. No hoops to jump through, and it didn't cost anything (other than the phone call).RagingGoose wrote: »My experience of emergency tax is this. Thank you for all your replies, i have downloaded and printed out the P46 ready to hand into work on Thursday.
Yes as an employee i am ignorant of these things, which is why i have asked on here!
I hope that i haven't missed deadline fo this month but atleast next month i will be sorted!
thanks again for the helpful advice!0 -
The employee should not have to know anything about a P46, it is the employer's responsibility to issue a P46 to all employees who do not have a P45. It is possible that the form you are given may not say P46 on it as an employer who does their P46s online can produce their own forms. If you have had one of these it should ask the same questions as the P46.
If your P46 is to late for this month and you were able to go with option A you should get a refund next month but some employers are not very good at understanding a P46 and use the emergency code on a month 1 basis instead of the cumulative basis for A; so may need to remind them of this if no refund.0
