A friend of mine lives in a corner house with a large front garden, near a parade of shops that has an off licence and a chippy. Quite a few years ago, when he was having a regular moan about the litter thrown over his garden wall, somebody suggested to him that the drinks cans may be worth money.
He started collecting and crushing them, then storing in an old dustbin in his garage. after the first few weigh in's at the local scrap merchants, he started asking neighbours to save theirs for him and he collects any he finds on his walks. He last weighed them in before his holidays in July and got about £140 for a years worth. Not a lot of money but on the other hand, not a lot of effort was needed.
  • I weigh in my alu drinks can,

I started keeping our empty sttel tin cans too, we have a large dog which goes through 2 or 3 giants tins of dog food a day...

We took about 6 large black bags full of tin cans and got £1:rotfl: for htem.
We also took other scrap bits too.

The way i look at it, ( hubby doesnt think its worth it) if you have the room, and dont minds cans/ scrap metal etc being hoarded for a few months, then what ever money you get is a bonus....

I know the scrappie we went too doesnt pay the best prices, but its in an area that we allway go to, and is local, so dont spend any extra on fuel to go and weigh them in...

I allways say if its something for nothing, its allways worth it, regardless on how little money you get, as its money you wouldnt have had anyway...

    go for it...

Also just a tip,, .....scrap prices normally go down in December....;)

My Pa collects aluminium cans from family/neighbours and stockpiles them in his shed. He makes no secret of the fact he sells them for scrap, and no one minds as a) no one else can be bothered to do anything but put them in council recycling, and b) he is an oap and spends aaaggggees collecting, checking (with a magnet) and crushing cans. IIRC a shed full of cans takes about 5-6 mths to accumulate, and he gets about £20-25 for his efforts. :)

Bless him - keeps him out of trouble :D

(and I guess it's worth the effort if you've nowt better to do)
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
