Debt Hardship Case for pensioner

Hello All
Some advice please. My mother has had some health issues over the years (last 15 years) due death of my father and his long illness leading up to his passing way.
Over this time she had numerous bank charges whilst she was looking after her children (some years ago as we are all adults now). I did submit a claim some years ago for them, but it was rejected and we never pursued it further. I am now about to re pursue, quite aggressively.
My main question is over the general credit cards debt she acurred over that period of time. She shouldn't of had them. She was suffering from a breakdown from looking after a person with Alihzimers, then thats persons death and bringing up 4 children. That debt has been passed onto a IVA, but she is a pensioner on a basic state pension who still suffers from depression and as you can imagine her person merger.
Whats the best course action?
Kind regards

I don't know where you would legally stand on this, you should speak to CAB or CCCS for free advice. I hope she's gets it sorted out soon.xxxx0

If you are 4 adult children could you all just chip in and help her out, even if it means getting loans yourself, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Eh?? Very LAST RESORT getting yourself into debt......I know it must be hard watching her in this situation but I would definitely try and sort this out for her first without bailing her out. Instead of one person being in financial crisis you may have four, there are better ways to help out your mother, I would see what they say, pehaps a DMP is a better route???0 -
I meant every word, I would rather go into debt than see my mother distressed like this and add even more distress by putting her
through more traumatic times.
Depends on what the 4 children are about and none of us knows, so 'financial crisis' was a bit OTTmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Fair enough, but that is your situation, also it might not be that hard to resolve, without others getting into debt.0

As a pp has said you might be better speaking to cccs or cab
what company is your mother doing the IVA with ...would they not be able to reclaim the charges for her0 -
An IVA might not be the best route for your mum. Does she own the house? how is she going to pay an IVA on her pension?
Has she had proper independent advice from a debt charity or was it a private company (who may or may not have acted in her best interests)?
Best of Luck
