Creating a CV

Where is the best place to get help or advice to create a cv, I have tried searching but the only thing I can think of searching for is cv which is too short.

  • Try searching for 'CV Templates' - I'm sure there'll more options with this refinement.

PM me your email address. Your CV was a very good start, I've just tweaked it a bit.

Used to to this for a living - hope you like it1

Work on your formatting. For your job descriptions, don't use paragraphs. Use bullet points to summarise your duties effectively. Think carefully about what you have actually done so far - I get the feeling that you're not selling yourself as well as you could.

Your qualifications are in the wrong order. Start with the HND and work backwards, towards your GCSEs. I would advise against listing them all in detail. Try something like:
    University of Lincolnshire and Humberside
    1999 - 2001
    * Modules in HND Computing (studied part-time).

    Grimbsy College
    1996 - 1999
    * A-level Computing (E) and GSCE English Language (C).

    Wintringham School
    1991 - 1996
    * Seven GCSEs including Mathematics (B) and English Literature (C).

Shorten the section on Interests and Activities! It's not necessary to even have one.

I don't understand why you've mentioned your work as a part time DJ and YMCA Volunteer here - why not put them under Employment History along with your experiences as a PSV Driver and Ride Operative? Volunteering is valuable experience, sell it as such.

Under Skills, you've mentioned the following:
    * I am a confident internet user and have used the web to research many topic areas.
    * I am familiar with the internet communication systems.
    * Up to date experience of computer software and hardware.

It's all a bit fuzzy. You would be better off having a separate section for Computing Skills, and listing your experience with specific programs, e.g. "Experienced in all Microsoft Office Packages, Windows, and Mac OS."

It's just a general cv to send out to a number of prospective employers
