Am sick of paying £25 pm for cable when we only use it for free to air channels anyway so going to put in freeview
Have already upgraded the aerial and now just looking for a decent reasonably priced set top box - anyone recommend a good one?

I've had a bunch of different ones over the last couple of years, all fairly cheap, and have found most of them to be very similar. Some have a slightly more clunky interface than others, but I don't think you can go too wrong.
So maybe just keep an eye out when you're in tesco/woolies etc.
That said, I currently have a humax 9200t I got from amazon. It was £180, which I know is a lot, but is worth every penny. It's got two tuners a 160gb hard disk built in, so you can pause live tv, record two different channels at once etc etc etc.
If you have the money, it's an awesome investment - just for getting rid of the pile of videos next to the TV

Not sure what kind of cable set-up you have, but have you looked into free cable tv? E.g. http://www.telewest.co.uk/websales/product.do?id=111690

Sorry to hijack the thread, but how do you "upgrade the aerial", and how much does this cost? Our rooftop aerial was damaged yonks ago but never needed as we use cable... also sick of paying costs, got a set top box and an aerial booster (from a friend who had same set up on their portable tv where it worked fine), yet it doesn't give any freeview signal on our telly.
Presume it has to be via the rooftop one, but no idea of costs or how to get this set up... im useless i know :P:rotfl:0 -
my husband brought a high gain aerial and just got up on the roof and swapped the old one for a new one, used the existing cable, not too much bother and if your a bit handy could do it yourself

I bought my daughter a freeview box from Cash generator for £17.99. It's Matsui I think.
I got mine from Cash Generator also but a couple of years ago now and it was only £20~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I am looking for a Freeview box for my daughter's bedroom and have just found this one:http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BISKUS/pricerunner-21/ref=nosim
it seems good value and all but one of the reviews are good.
Does anyone have any other opinions/recommendations before I buy this one?
thanksStop looking for answers....
The most you can hope for are clues.....:)0
