how to negotiate a compromise agreement?

In the employers position I would want to be very careful that I was not being seen to be forcing you into this choice. Suggesting it is an option is one thing. But forcing it upon you is another. Because you could make a very expensive legal claim against them - whether you win or loose. There is no reason why you cannot provide them with a letter saying that you are interested in this option depending upon the actual details and would like to see the details.0

Thank you both. I did consult a solicitor back when I originally wrote the post and she said that she thought it best if I conduct the negotiations myself so that it minimised costs, and I think I will do that unless there is any real reason not to.
I agree with SarEl that the motives are a protection for themselves rather than any implication on me. I do appreciate your input as always!

Am I right that when you last discussed it with the solicitor, you had not really made any decision on whether to go for the agreement?
Now that you seem to have made the decision, the solicitor might be more helpful. They might even be prepared to quote you reasonable fees.0
