apprentships con

i dont want one its just as a last resort.

First if you over 18 its very rare they will hire you, why because its cheaper to hire somone under 18 as government helps with cost.

Also they may just use you for a year for cheap labour.

Ive applied to loads of apprentships over the years one i got who never gave me a start date, came making excuse about paperwork, anthor 2 at the momment dont even have a clue ther advertisng jobs, as i called them up to ask why reply taking so long, anthor i passed phone interview, and called provider up loads of times, who said im first in line for interview, now they say im unsuffull without a interview.

The above post is a big clue as to why you've never been offered one. May I suggest you enrol in college and do a basic literacy course? It is obvious you are quite illiterate and in the current climate, it puts you way down the bottom of the list.

It depends on what you're doing. My son was very lucky to get a place on a very sought after scheme. He did have to have a minimum of 5 GCSE's though, including maths and at least one science. He also had to have an aptitude test. It has led to a good career for him.

I applied for an apprenticeship in accounts at 3 different places a month or so ago and wasn't successful in any & I have 6 O Levels and 6 CSEs & it said you can apply at any age but they do not want people with experience

Considering they only have to pay £2.50 per hour it looks like cheap labour to me. A good way for the government to allow employers to ignore the minimum wage laws.

Most don't. It is a lot harder to train someone who has their own pre-conceived ideas of how something should be done than to train someone with no experience at all. The person with experience will always revert back to the way they've always done it, even if that isn't correct or suitable for that particular company.

You cannot discriminate on grounds of age any more but I do wonder whether it's really appropriate to try to get an apprenticeship when in your forties.
