Must admit I'd probably just have tipped it into a bowl and got a spoon! I think sweet wine slushy sounds lovely :D

    Hi

Last night I put a bottle of wine into the freezer to quickly cool it down. Anyway, I completely forgot all about it until this morning!!! Obviously, it was frozen solid and the cork had popped out of it. My question is, now that is defrosted do I need to bin it or will it still be okay to drink? (Apologies if this is a really daft question.)

    Kind regards

    Mardrew
  • It should be okay to drink. I've done that before and it's been fine. Only thing is if it was a fizzy wine, it'll probably be a bit flat.

Sip it and see ;) . It might not be alcoholic any more, but I'm sure it won't poison you.

Alcohol would not leave the wine just because it has been frozen.

I'd drink it, and chuck some in the Sunday dinner gravy. ;)

The alcohol would seperate on freezing due to lower freezing point, if you were wanting to you could pour this off, this is sort of reverse to distillation

Either way you get neat alcohol, hic:beer:

I wasn't sure, but I know they say if you use wine in cooking, the heat destroys the alcohol, so I thought the same might be true of the freezing process.

If it isn't to your liking for drinkig, you can always use it for cooking. I do this all the time with part-bottles left over.

Ah! I use this to strengthen cheap vodka. You can remove a certain amount of water via ice when it freezes. Once the alcohol content is over a certain % then it won't freeze anymore. It must be about 40% as branded vodka's dont freeze.

In this case the wine is already defrosted so the alcohol is mixed back in.
