I want to sign up for the free trial but was wondering if anyone else has. Is it easy to cancel online before the trial is over? I don't fancy ending up with a yearly charge of £80+ if I cannot cancel it with ease, I simply could not afford it at all.

Try enquiring at your local library, I believe all libraries allow free access to Ancestry.com.0

Hi, I took out one of their free trials and cancelled the day before it ran out with no problems. I would highly recommend this out of all the family history sites because of the excellent customer service - all queries made by free phone numbers. I have actually gone back to being a member and in my opion, the best way to join (if you get hooked, like I did) is to purchase their family tree maker because it comes with a free 6 months membership which works out better than paying monthly and it allows you to dowload your tree to your computer so you don't lose your research when your membership expires. One of the reasons that I am so impressed with this site is that you can gain access to other people's research, including photos and docs if they have made their info public. I started off with very little to go on and have traced many lines back to the 1700s.0

I've used Ancestry for the past 10 years and I've never had any problem cancelling my subscription. I buy the Family Tree Maker using my Tesco vouchers every 6 months, get my 6 months free subscription, then when that's finished I cancel and do it all over again. Just make sure if you do this you give a couple of weeks notice of cancellation because you do need to enter credit card details and they will take the fees if you don't cancel on time.

The Tesco page says you get 6 months Essentials subscription with the Platinum Edition but I got 6 months Premium with mine, which is a fantastic deal. You can also get the World Edition for £30 worth of vouchers, useful if you want to research ancestors in other countries.0 -
Thanks to everyone who helped out.0

After getting today's newsletter I decided to take advantage of the free trial and look for some lost relatives. Martin's email says it does NOT require any sign up for payment. I couldn't get past the page asking for my card details which I don't want to give.
Help please..0 -
I'm thinking of getting the Family Tree Maker with my Tesco point just to get the 6 months Ancestry, but my computer is ancient, has Windows 2000 which isn't one of the ones listed. If I just use it for the Ancestry will it work?0

I don't think it will - it's not a code that comes with the software, it's actually part of the drop-down menu on the programme itself which you click on to activate the trial.0
