AA - Breakdown cover diff for NI?

I have been looking at AA cover and option 100 and option 200. The difference between them is relay which from their site is -

If we can't arrange a local repair, we'll transport you, your car, and up to seven other passengers home, or to any mainland UK destination of your choice.

Does this mean in NI we can only be taken home as we dont live on the mainland or they will take us anywere on the mainland (could make for a cheap way to get on holiday!)

Does anyone else understand this as when I asked them on the phone she really wasnt too sure and didnt understand the difference between mainland, southen Ireland and NI.

i think you're reading in to that a bit too much.

the last time i had to call the AA, they couldnt do a local repair, they transported the vehicle to the dealer where i bought the car, gave the dealer his report on what he thought was wrong, then dropped me off home.

If you're asking is there some exclusion as to your rights as an AA memeber because their blurb mentions uk mainland, then i don't think you have anything to worry about.

Under what situation would you expect that to happen? if you are broke down they will either take you home or to a garage of your choice, if you are on hols on the mainland they will get you home if required, so what scenario would you expect them to refuse to sort you out?

I suspect if you were living in belfast, broke down in carrickfergus and you wanted them to take you to aberdeen then they might object, but if you plan on using the system as it was intended i really don't forsee you having any problems.

Plus given the AA have been here a long time, id imagine if there was an issue someone might have spotted it by now.
  • if for example you are on the mainland... and break down, they will deliver you to the boat port, you pay for the boat, and another AA van will get you on the other end and bring you home or to the local repair place

Yes, that exact thing happened a friend of mine. You cant say fairer than that.

I really cant see under what circumstances the OP thinks there might be a problem?

If I was in say belfast and going to Portrush for my holidays then broke down on the way then they could refuse to take me to portrush as it not 'home'

This is what I meant but agree I prob am reading too much into it.
