Good Old PDL Companies

Options
Morning All,

Bit of advice needed please. I'm in a mess with payday loans and have been following the great advice from this site trying to sort this out. I managed to get a new bank account set up and my wages paid into this account so all of my loans have now gone into default.

The calls and emails have now started flowing and I have sent an email to each and every one explaining that I am unable to meet full repayments and offered them a monthly sum that I can afford.

All I am getting back is demands for full payment, and also copies of bank statements and proof from work of a reduced income. Do I have to supply all of these details as it seems a bit much to me?

I have been off work for the last few days and these companies have now started calling my work looking for me. I don't have a direct line at work so the reception are putting the calls through to my boss. I have now had a call from work saying they want to see me on Monday about this so I am now in trouble at work too. I'm so scared that I'm going to end up losing my job over all this and am so embarrassed that my bosses must now know that I'm in some sort of debt due to the calls.

I have asked each lender to not contact me by phone, only by letter or email but they have said no, they won't stop the calls until payments have been made.

I just don't know what else to do, I've offered everything I can afford and they just won't accept it. I don't know what is going to happen next and any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Argh - I wrote you a longish reply and it's all disappeared.
Right in summary - it's against OFT guidelines to write to you at work so write to them and tell them to stop or you will report them.
    2) You don't have to send them all this paperwork they are after so I'd really not give them any more details.
    3) Try and set up a standing order to pay off the payday loan companies. DO NOT give them your new bank details so they can set up a DD otherwise they may well rinse your new account.
    4) If you have a cheque book on your new account send them a cheque every month, otherwise write to them requesting their bank details so you can set up the standing order. Keep copies of all letters in case they get silly and take it to court where you canprove they are being difficult by refusing to provide bank details.
    5) if you haven't managed to shut your old account don't panic - they will rinse your old account but at least you will only have your old bank to deal with to set up a payment plan.
    BEst of Luck

Sadly you are not the first and won't be the last to get in a mess with payday loans. Have a chat with your boss and explain that you aware these companies are trying to get in touch with you and that you are dealing with it and that you understand they are not allowed to call you at work and that you will be reporting them.
You may or may not want to explain that you are in debt to them and that you setting up a payment plan - it depends on your relationship with your boss.

Thanks so much for your replies DF, it's great to know that I don't have to provide them this information. I'm really suprised that one of the companies has emailed me today saying although they can't accept my offer they won't reject any form of payment I make them and given me bank details so I can transfer the money. At least that's one I can at least start paying towards.

I shall carry on trying with all the others and just do what I can, why did I never read these boards before I got in this mess........... Ah well the only way is up surely, at least I'm tackling this now and the heartache will be worth it in the end!

    Thanks again.

I'm in the same situation, PDL is an endless cycle of nothing but nightmares. I've just finally started to finally face up to my problems and I'm still trying to get in touch with them to no avail >.<

    Hi KoalaBear,

Sorry to hear you are also in the payday loan trap, do you mind me asking if you have many? I stupidly owe to 7 different companies so it's taking so much time trying to keep up contact with them all. I have just got to the point now where I'm not really sure what they expect me to do, I can't afford to pay the sums they are asking for so I just don't know what else to say to them. It's been nice to have a day today of no phone calls as for the last 5 working days my phone has constantly been ringing and text messages coming through.

I got so scared when one of the companies rang work and I know I'm in trouble with my boss, however as DF says above I will just be open and honets with my boss and tell them the truth. I will ask if there is anyway that the reception girls can stop the calls being put through to anyone to avoid any further problems. They have my mobile number, email address and home address so they can't say it is the only way to contact me.

Good to hear you are tackling your problem too, I just wish there was a way of warning all the other poor people before they fall into the trap too.
  • I had 6 at one point, I thankfully got down to 4.. however I can't for the life of me recieve any correspondence from them. I didn't put in a work number, I didn't want the companies contacting them.

There are plenty of warnings but I'm just glad I've faced it now and I'm going to solved it. But facing uptp the fact that bewteen them I owe over 1700 is not a nice thing o_O
