new bank account HELP

First the good news I've paid my first installment on my CCCS DMP feels good but many years to go. My problem is trying to set up a new bank account. I applied online to A&L and expected to get turned down but couldnt get to bank in person as they're open during my working hours. I got turned down but they suggested basic account which is what I want anyway but I applied by post a month ago and have heard nothing. I am now getting worried as I need an account for my pay cheque ( had to cash it in this month to pay DMP and cost a lot) I have a day off today and could go to A&L or another bank in person but not sure what to do.

  • Go and get another bank account.

A lot of the banks do this in person - Nationwide, Co-op, Abbey

Here is a link to banks which provide basic bank facitilites

  • You might be better off with a bank that gives a Visa Electron or Delta card, so that you have some flexibility.

Also, there is a prepaid Mastercard called Cashplus, which is used like a regular credit card - but you load the funds onto it first. I have had mine Since September and it is fantastic!
  • Remember that in person you need to take proof of your identity -

    Passport
    Photo driving licence
Recent Utility bill in your name
Maybe benefits letters which have your address and National Insurance Number

It's a great feeling when you sign up to a DMP.

Don't panic about the bank account - it will all come together.

I'm on a DMP and have a basic account with Barclays Bank. I did set it up via the post and took a while to come through, however it might be best to pop into your local branch and open one there.

    Good luck!
